Diamond DA20-A1 Katana at Killarney Ontario.

Welcome!
After flying radio controlled models for many years, I
got the itch to try the real thing. I started my Private Pilot training in late
2001 at the
Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre
and received my license in the summer of 2002. Since then, I've been averaging
about 50 hours per year, first in Cessna 152s and 172s, and more recently in
the Diamond DA20-A1 Katanas owned by
National Flyers Academy.
During that time, I've had a lot of ideas for making flying easier, safer, and
more enjoyable, and here is where I'm starting to write them down in a series
of articles. You'll also find a growing collection
of aviation related photographs that my passengers
and I have taken.

What is General Aviation?
General aviation is any flying activity that is not airline, military, or model
aviation. This includes light aircraft like the ones I fly, ultralights,
gliders, balloons, homebuilt aircraft like my Volksplane below, and business
jets. Since my interest lies with light aircraft, ultralights, and homebuilts,
that's primarily what you'll find on this site.
Das Volksplane
Everything goes full circle, and I'm now applying my R/C model building
experience to the construction of an
Evans VP-1 Volksplane. This
all-wood single-seat design is built very much like a large model airplane, so
I'm feeling right at home building it. I've got an
entire site dedicated to its construction, with a
detailed builder's log, lots of construction photos, and a page of airplane
building inspiration with more photos like the one you see here.

Flying
isn't my only hobby. I'm also interested in
