After several weeks of very bad weather, there was finally a long enough break to get a flight in. I booked the plane for Friday morning, and it’s a good thing I did, because conditions were back to low visibility in heavy snow by the afternoon. My departure was delayed by some lingering ice fog, but I finally took off at 10:21 local time in 4 mile surface visibility.

Once airborne, visibility quickly increased to a hazy 10 miles or so under a 3200 foot ceiling. Not very good weather for taking aerial photos, but perfectly adequate for just flying around. All in all a rather uneventful flight, completed with a pretty good landing.

Ground handling was a bit tricky, since there was ice in the ramp area. The usual method of turning the Katana using the toe brakes (the nose wheel is free castering) was ineffective, as the braked wheel would just slide. Instead, I had to use rudder input with bursts of power to steer at low speeds. Good practice for tail dragger flying perhaps?
